Meta has pulled back the curtain on it’s much anticipated virtual reality platform Horizon Worlds. Previously in beta, the sprawling digital space is now open to anyone in the U.S. and Canada who’s over 18 and has a Quest 2 headset.
So What?
Horizon Worlds is not dissimilar from other ‘creator’ games, like Minecraft and Roblox, where users are the generators and creators of content (rather than the sole job of the developer). In the Horizon Worlds intro video, Meta admits that the full-featured universe it depicts is "not representative of current product." That's because the company is counting on its users to fill in the gaps. (Though they have partnered with companies like Gucci and Chipotle to create virtual events for users to attend and shop to help draw them to the platform).
