Read this Twitter thread from PhD candidate Laura Edelson about the masterclass of mis-and-disinformation that has been the war in Ukraine to date.

So What?

At the Future Communities safari we heard from Rebecca Skippage, Editor of Disinformation at the BBC. She encouraged us all to consider actively going to where communities are coordinating to engage them and combat disinformation.

What’s interesting about Laura’s thread is the use of early interventions and active (positive) (mis)information from forces opposed to Russia’s actions, in order to control a news environment and actively combat Russian fake news.

ONE NEAT TRICK for making an information space hostile to misinformation: Flood the zone! The US government deserves credit for doing this early. Not leaving an information vacuum for your opponent to fill makes their job much, much, harder.
