#Don'tPayUK

Aug 08, 2022

As the cost of living crisis really starts to bite, the hashtag Don't Pay UK has taken TikTok by storm. Viral videos where consumers rally against energy companies and are refusing to pay their bills.

A campaign group has now sprung up around the hashtag, encouraging the UK public to stop paying their energy bills from 1st October. Don't Pay UK wants to recruit a million people to sign their pledge in order to force the government and energy companies into action.

So what?

The growing civil unrest around the cost of living isn't limited to energy bills. Videos on TikTok also encourage individuals to stop paying their TV licence, council tax wand water charges.

With the government currently dragging their heels, focused more on the leadership election than civil unrest; expect the cost living crisis to be played out on TikTok rather than at Davos this winter.
